Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is illegal. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel complex that highlights many luxuries in addition to the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
