Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den betting is illegal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, contains 150 slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel compound that features a number of comforts accompanying the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
