Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an appealing background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino betting is not permitted. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, features 150 slots and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that contains a number of luxuries on top of the casino, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
