Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino gambling is banned. Eight casinos are established in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel complex that features a number of comforts accompanying the casino, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight tables.
